It was created to address the lack of global norms and frameworks for AI governance, ensuring that innovation advances without compromising human rights, democracy, or social equity.

It is an initiative led by Mr. Sujeet Kumar, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and his Office. It is headquartered in New Delhi, India, and functions as a global alliance involving parliamentarians from multiple countries.

To empower legislators worldwide to govern AI responsibly such as upholding democracy, protecting human dignity, and promoting innovation for the common good.

Unlike tech-focused or government-only bodies, GAP-AI puts parliamentarians at the centre: bridging the gap between innovation and legislation by offering capacity building, peer learning, and access to technical expertise.

The core objectives of GAP-AI includes but not limited to: • Build parliamentary capacity on AI issues. • Facilitate cross-border collaboration and peer learning. • Champion ethical and inclusive AI governance. • Influence global AI discourse through coordinated policy inputs to bodies like the G20, UN, and GPAI.

Membership is open to: 1. Full Members: Sitting MPs at the national or federal level. 2. Associate Members: Experts from industry, academia, start-ups, and civil society. 3. Observers: Provincial or state-level legislators.

1. Full Members: Can vote, propose resolutions, and participate in all committees. 2. Associate Members: Can provide technical expertise and policy recommendations. 3. Observers: Can attend proceedings and contribute intellectually through committees.

It is led by a Chair and Deputy Chair, supported by a Secretariat, and structured around Thematic Working Groups and Committees focusing on key policy areas within AI governance.

1. Annual Summit: Held every year in New Delhi, India. 2. Regional Summits: 3–6 each year across regions like Africa, Asia-Pacific, Europe, and Latin America. 3. Thematic Committee Meetings: At least twice a year to deliberate and report at the Annual Summit.

1. Issuing Joint Declarations on AI ethics and accountability. 2. Conducting Global Advocacy and shaping inputs to international platforms like the G20 and UN. 3. Creating Open Knowledge Platforms for parliamentarians to share best practices. 4. Showcasing Global AI Models that inspire policy innovation.

By prioritising the voices and challenges of developing nations in AI policymaking and ensuring that frameworks are globally equitable and contextually relevant.
